Susan Matchie joined Reformers Unanimous (RU) in 2003 with the intentions of helping her son, Ron, who was addicted to drugs and alcohol. Little did she know, she was the one who was going to be helped the most. While holding Ron in her arms after a suicide attempt, Susan decided it was time for her to step in and get help for her son.
Susan joined a counsel group at RU hoping she could take to her son the things she learned. She began to do the work faithfully in the RU Challenge Book, an in-depth Bible study program. Before she joined RU, she really didn’t think that she had any strongholds in her life, but after a few weeks of doing the challenges, the Holy Spirit began to reveal to her some hurts that she had buried in her heart for many years.
In September of 2004, she received assurance of her salvation and was baptized one Friday night at RU! Through all of this, God placed Susan in some situations that forced her to face the hurts in her past. During this time Susan continued to be faithful to RU. On March 7, 2006, after fasting and reading her Bible, she came across Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God . . .” She realized that she did not have to live by her own weak faith but by the amazing faith of Jesus Christ! This was the turning point for Susan. Her life was changed that day. The Word of God broke the chains that had bound her for many years.
